About the event

This is the second part of a two-part talk held over two consecutive weeks. Anyone registered for part 1 will automatically be registered for part 2. The event is based on a lecture Eugene Halliday gave in Liverpool during the 1960's which was recorded by the late Khen Ratcliffe (founder of Tan-y-Garth Hall Retreat) and later made available as an audio cassette recording entitled "Levels of Being" edited by Richard Milligan and published as part of the International Hermeneutic Society (IHS) Sound Archive.

In his lecture Halliday presents an ancient skeleton framework to help us understand and relate many seemingly disperate ideas into a concrete whole and experience them embodied within us. Ideas such as; the great chain of being, prodigality in the material world, the body's chakra energy system and the spirit /body dichotomy.

During this short course we will be working with the transcription of the original  lecture and discussing the ideas at the back of it. In particular the ‘graph’ of ‘Levels of Being’ that Halliday uses, and where possible, elaborating how we can use it in our own work and developing understanding. We will also link to other areas of his work and that of other thinkers working in the same areas.

Course fee includes a full pdf transcription with added notation and diagrams by the late John Bailey, a long standing IHS member. If participants can read it before and/or have a printed copy in fornt of them as we go through, it will help the learning process which is intended to make accessible it's essential meaning for a lay audience.
