About the Teachers
Betty Nesbitt's interest in the physical and spiritual aspects of Yoga has spanned over 45 years. She qualified as a Yoga teacher in 1985 with a diploma from the Comprehensive School of Yoga and subsequently taught widely on the Wirral after becoming inspired by Gordon and Pam Smith of Faith House and other yoga teachers. During her time teaching she has made many friends who are eminent teachers in their own right, including Anne Simmonett, Bernie Price and Janet Irlam. She later gained a diploma in Remedial Therapies which she used to help students with their yoga work. She is passionate about the teachings of Eugene Halliday, honing her meditation and visualization skills and supporting Tan-y-Garth Hall as a life member of the IHS.
Val Young was first introduced to yoga over thirty years ago and began teaching yoga in the early 1990s. She holds teaching diplomas in Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa Krama Yoga and has also undergone additional training in natural breath awareness meditation and the Vasistha method of pranayama. Val is passionate about making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical fitness and in addition to teaching hatha yoga classes has over the last ten years introduced chair-based yoga to various groups of people, including those with an acquired brain injury.
Anthony O’Toole became a certified teacher of martial arts at the age of 26 and has practiced them for 46 years, including the basic movements of softness in Zeran Tai Chi Qigong. He studied yoga under Khen Ratcliffe and Hermeneutics under Don Lord, both at Tan-y-Garth Hall. He is trustee of the Council of the IHS and its current treasurer.
Derek Murray studied yoga under Khen Ratcliffe as well as Hermeneutics and formal logic under Don Lord. He is a guest speaker for the Eugene Halliday Association, secretary of the IHS, visiting lecturer at UK universities and resident host of Tan-y-Garth Hall Retreat.
