About the event

Not just a study weekend but a Seminar, Concert and Book launch with practical demonstrations.

Beethoven claimed, “Music is a higher revelation than all of wisdom and all of philosophy”. Throughout history, musicians and philosophers have affirmed the power of music to unfold deep levels of knowledge about the nature of life and of the world. Music has thus been used as a central image in cosmology from the most ancient times: most famously the Divine Monochord of Robert Fludd and the Divine Vina of Saraswati, Indian goddess of music and knowledge. Such ideas have great charm but what relevance do they have for the modern world?

Peter Westbrook is a musician, musicologist, cultural historian and futurist. Over this weekend he will give a vision of a future for ourselves and our planet using music to identify essential components of our own inner selves and fundamental trends in cultural history. He has taught at universities in the UK, US and India, the California Institute of Integral Studies, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture in London, and Maharishi International University in the USA. He served as director of the Gandharva School of Music in Washington DC and is currently director of the Harmonia Institute and editor of International Flute Journal (www.flutejournal.com). He is author of “Divine Harmony - the Life and Teachings of Pythagoras” (1999/2012) and his new book, “Music, Psyche, Kosmos” which we will be launching during this weekend.
